Free Education: the Bigger Picture in Daniel Razon

Veteran broadcaster Daniel “Kuya Daniel” Razon fuses photographs and paintings in his latest exhibit for the free college education of the La Verdad Christian College (LVCC) scholars.

Brush and Shutter: Photography and Painting Exhibit will be featuring 56 of Kuya Daniel’s original photographs rendered on canvas by Tala Gallery artists, plus four more paintings with a different concept each. The exhibit will be opened to the public from September 28-30, 2009 at the Tala Gallery, Quezon City, Philippines.

Among the distinguished Filipino painters who shared their skills for free are: Roy Urap, Henry Cabrales, Yatar Bulos, Marlon See, CJ Tanedo, Gerry Joquico, Howard Jao and Tyago Almario. According to them, this serves as their contribution to Kuya Daniel’s encouraging social campaign, Isang Araw Lang (Just One Day), where countless community groups and organizations have been moved to do the good they can to others even for just one day.

Candy Manzano, Operations Manager of the Tala Gallery, said in an interview that the event is sure to be another successful exhibit of Kuya Daniel as there are some clients who have already reserved paintings. His last photo exhibit, Looking Beyond, in February of this year has outsold his In My Eyes in 2007. Proceeds of both exhibits went to the various daily public services of Kuya Daniel, as shown on Good Morning, Kuya! on UNTV 37.

“Every painting that will be bought will come with the original photograph it was based from,” says Manzano. And when asked what other things the public can expect from the three-day exhibit she says, “The first day is definitely the most exciting part because of the opening program. The second and third day, more or less, will be catalog signing. But certainly, any day of the event will be absolute pleasure for anyone who walks in through our doors! We are talking about the photos of the Dean of Philippine Portraiture’s (Pablo “Bob” Razon) grandson here after all.” (September 17, 2009)
