The prestigious annual Golden Dove Awards, the award-giving body organized by the Kapisanan ng Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP), awarded UNTV and all other winners last April 29 at the Star Theater, CCP Complex in Pasay City.

“For a young network to be at the helm with other big networks, it’s really a big step for us,” expressed Jeffrey Santos, operations manager of UNTV rescue division. “I’m really proud to be a part of UNTV because I’ve seen Kuya [Daniel] and Bro. Eli’s works.”

The bible-based kiddie oriented program Kawan ng Cordero or KNC Show, another program of UNTV, was also recognized as “Best TV Children’s Program”.

“Caring for the Elderly” became the third UNTV campaign that won Best TV Public Service Announcement.

In 2010, the station bagged the same award for its “Isang Araw Lang” (Drugs Infomercial), an effort that aimed to raise awareness on the effects of prohibited drugs. The station’s anti-smoking advocacy in 2011, meanwhile, received the same KBP citation.

Compassion for Senior Citizens

Kuya Daniel Razon’s initiative to provide public service to the senior citizens inspired the advocacy, “Caring for the Elderly.” Through UNTV, the campaign also aims to raise awareness and enlighten people about the rights and importance of the elderly.

In full support of the campaign, several UNTV shows like Kaagapay aired discussions of Republic Act No. 9994 or the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010. On its open forum segment, several government officials talked about issues on protecting elderly against abuse and special benefits for the seniors in Makati City, among others.

Good Morning Kuya also continues to air latest news and information on maintaining good nutrition and skin health of the aged.

“Our viewers can expect that UNTV, led by Mr. Public Service Kuya Daniel Razon and with the support of Bro. Eli Soriano of Members Church of God International (MCGI)), will continue its public services,” remarked Jovan Marquez, programs and productions assistant head of UNTV.

MCGI is more popularly known in the country for its television program, Ang Dating Daan.

UNTV to Honor the Elderly on its 10th Anniversary

The launch of the campaign aims to pay tribute to the contributions of the elderly or senior citizens in the society, and will be the same theme that UNTV adopts for its 10th anniversary this coming July.

While the campaign has been introduced late last year, together with its partner MCGI, the station already started their outreach for senior citizens through community-based public services.

UNTV had visited Mabayo High School in Bataan to provide public services, distribute grocery items. Along with the effort, a variety show was held to entertain the elderly.

“This is one very good thing that we should be sharing to the elderly. By giving them importance even in our little ways, we are giving them great joy,” Mildred de Leon, Mabayo High School guidance councilor, pointed out.

On UNTV Action Center’s People’s Day held every month in various barangays, senior citizens also get their share of free services.
